The Billing Clerk is responsible for collecting all outstanding accounts.
Responsibilities
Responds to patients’ questions regarding billing statements either by telephone or in person.
Coordinates with the front office team to ensure that all outstanding patient accounts are addressed before the next appointment.
Reviews 90-day overdue patient balances and sends demand letters.
Prepares 120+ day overdue balances for the collection agency.
Posts all payments received from patients, insurance companies, and other 3rd parties.
Bills secondary insurance coverage.
Mails claims on a weekly basis.
Ensures a deposit is prepared and deposited to the bank daily.
Downloads electronic remittance advice (ERAs) from clearinghouse online daily.
Assists with coding duties as needed under the direction of the Billing Supervisor.
Assists with special projects as assigned by the Billing Supervisor.
Assists with following up on unpaid claims from 3rd party insurance.
Works on unapplied money report monthly to perform refunds as required.
Assists in dental coding as needed.
Reads, analyzes, and interprets forms, grants, and documents.

Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED certificate.
Associate’s Degree or related training preferred.
Previous billing experience in the healthcare industry.
Intermediate computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft applications, email, Internet, and EHR systems.
English-Spanish bilingual skills preferred.
Some understanding of complex requirements relative to billing issues.
Native American hiring preference applies.
