Overview

The role of General Buyer procures materials and goods and coordinates activities involved with purchases for various departments of Chumash Enterprises. Schedules and coordinates business travel for Team Members, following established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and reviews requests for purchases.
  • Purchases materials, supplies, and equipment in collaboration with various departments. 
  • Utilizes purchasing software to process requests for purchases by preparing purchase orders, following established policies and procedures.
  • As a designated company credit card holder, makes authorized purchases as needed and completes related documentation/processes.
  • Communicates with vendors to track purchases, ensure receipt of order, and confirm delivery dates and methods. 
  • Expedites orders and requests as needed.
  • Keeps departments informed on shipment arrival times and delivery schedules.
  • Addresses purchasing issues/problems with vendors and departments and develops solutions; involves Senior General Buyer and Purchasing Manager as needed.
  • Informs Purchasing Manager and appropriate parties of purchasing discrepancies.
  • Ensures all advance payments, partial payments, or cash on delivery checks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Works with Accounting Department to ensure appropriate documents regarding purchasing activities are received.
  • Coordinates receipt of goods with Receiving Attendant.
  • Maintains accurate purchasing files and records.
  • Works with vendors to obtain quotations, prices, and delivery options.
  • Evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine if they are compatible with objectives.
  • Schedules and coordinates business travel for Team Members, following established policies and procedures.
  • Makes reservations for air travel, car rentals, overnight accommodations, etc.
  • Notifies Team Members of completed arrangements and forwards itineraries, tickets and instructions.
  • Verifies accuracy of travel documentation and charges and performs related clerical duties.
  • Assists with shipping/receiving duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED certificate.
  • Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Accounting, or related field preferred.
  • Previous clerical/administrative experience.
  • Experience in purchasing or related field is preferred.
  • Experience with purchasing and inventory software is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of general business and accounting systems and methods.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, rules, procedures, and administration is required.
  • Proficient in the use of computers, including Microsoft Office applications, e-mail, and Internet. 
  • Must apply for, receive, and maintain a Gaming License from the Tribal Gaming Agency.
  • Native American hiring preference applies.
