Overview

At the direction of the Executive Director of Tribal Health Clinic, participates and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Behavioral Health department serving patients, and their families, though treatment, referrals or oversight of their cases. Ensures that Native American and non-Native patients are obtaining and receiving necessary behavioral health services based on the resources of the Clinic. Participates as member of the Behavioral Health Team. Models a strong commitment to the mission, policies, and goals of the Clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and administers Behavioral Health and Social Services section of Clinic strategic plan, and develop and oversee budget for all programs in the department and assists with the AAAHC accreditation process.
  • Monitors and administers current grants of the department, and responsible for the communication with Executive Director of Tribal Health Clinic, Director of Operations, and any other appropriate staff.
  • Assists Executive Director of Tribal Health Clinic in locating sources of funding and share in writing of grant applications.
  • Provides overall staff supervision and program development for Native American programs.
  • Oversees and manages, Elder Services, Mental Health Services, Drug and Alcohol Services, and Community Outreach.
  • Acts as Behavioral Health liaison to tribes, and local, county, state and federal agencies. 
  • Seeks new programs as appropriate. 
  • Maintains and monitors the behavioral health (mental health, alcohol and drug services) and social services caseloads, case management, supervision of related staff, community outreach, prevention education, and wellness activities. 
  • Provides psychological / social work assistance to psychosocially or emotionally disturbed individuals, with expertise in the recognition of the cultural needs of the Native American community.
  • Develops, administers, evaluates, and improves the behavioral health and social services programs.     
  • Provides and supervises others in providing direct Native American and non-Native patient interaction, including assessment of patient, family, and home with respect to medical, dental, social services and behavioral health needs.
  • Hires, trains, develops, empowers, coaches, counsels, conducts performance and salary reviews, resolves problems, provides open communication vehicles, disciplines, and recommends terminations as appropriate.
  • Participates in the management team of the Santa Ynez Tribal Health Clinic (SYTHC).
  • Represents and acts as liaison between SYTHC and other community education agencies involved in behavioral health and social services needs and maintains and expands the community referral system based on these contacts.
  • Collaborates and acts as a behavioral health resource, and coordinates services with medical, mental health and substance abuse providers.
  • Screens, selects, orders, and distributes materials for client health education, in conjunction with Behavioral Health and Social Service staff, the Dental Director, the Medical Director and other Clinic staff.
  • Works directly in treatment relationships with patients; individually, or in a group in consultation, with comprehensive service providers.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served (infant, adolescent, adult, or geriatric).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of domestic violence, child abuse, and dependent abuse protocols.
  • Interpret psychological and psychiatric treatment to patient families and help alleviate fear and other attitudes obstructing acceptance of these services with the expectation of continuation of treatment by the patient.
  • Maintains and adheres to confidentiality and privileged communication (patient, employee, and company).
  • Presents information to the patient, the patient’s family, the Director of Operations, the Management Team, and/or the Health Board as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Advanced degree, PHD or PhyD in Clinical Psychology license issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences or the California Board of Psychology. 
  • Current license in Mental Health or related field.
  • Possession of a current CPR certification and basic First Aid certificate.
  • Ten years of Behavioral Health related experience and/or training.
  • Experience in community networking and development of referral resources. 
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with culturally diverse communities, especially Native Americans and their specific behavioral health and social service needs.
  • Strong commitment to mission, policies, and goals of the Santa Ynez Tribal Health Clinic.
  • Access to reliable transportation and a willingness to travel. 
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
  • English-Spanish bilingual skills highly desirable. 
  • Intermediate computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft applications, e-mail and Internet, RPMS and GUI scheduler software.
  • Native American hiring preference applies.

$136,612 annually
