Overview

Under the direction of the Sustainability Maintenance Manager, the Recycling Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of Chumash Casino Resort’s recycling and zero waste program. Directs, supervises, and works alongside Recycling Technicians in the collection, sorting, processing, and preparation of recyclable materials. Ensures adherence to safety guidelines and waste management procedures. 

Responsibilities

  • Collects bags from incoming waste stream and places in designated areas for sorting or disposal.
  • Oversees and assists in the sorting of plastic, glass, styrofoam, cardboard, and other recyclables per established policy.
  • Disposes of unwanted and hazardous waste in compliance with company procedures.
  • Monitors the daily bin pick up and trash removal by Waste Management to ensure adherence to procedure. 
  • Preps Densifier area for Polystyrene processing. Maintains procedure log and coordinates pick up with DART.
  • Updates and maintains all waste and recycling logs including Waste Management, Cal-Recycle, and Battery Systems.
  • Operates and maintains the compost machine to insure it is in good working order. Makes necessary repairs as needed, and/or coordinates with vendors for parts and labor.
  • Adheres to Manufacturer daily, weekly, and monthly guidelines and recommendations for safe use. Maintains the internal service log.
  • Sorts through food, and tissue scrapes, keeping a weight log of each item daily while additionally inserting waste in compost machine and making constant adjustments as needed to ensure quality of product is met and ready to be offloaded.
  • Assists with coordination of food scraps and cardboard reuse programs.
  • Ensures bottles are collected for recycling from designated areas.
  • Ensures recyclable materials are delivered to designated bins and collections areas.
  • Sets out collection containers and sorting tables at beginning of shift. Puts away containers and sorting tables at end of shift.
  • Sweeps and preps area for pressure washing including sweeping recycle area, surrounding area, and underneath bins.
  • Minimizes the use of water during the recycling process.
  • Responsible for keeping debris out of the creek.
  • Makes recommendations for process and productivity improvements.
  • Ensures box baler is clean and operational.
  • Pressure washes recycle area and around bins.
  • Responsible for ensuring recycle area is cleaned and maintained.
  • Trains, mentors, develops, coaches, resolves problems, provides open communication vehicles, and recommends disciplinary actions as appropriate.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED certificate.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality or equivalent work experience.
  • IFMA SFP Credential preferred within first year of employment.
  • Three years of recycling experience within a similar establishment.
  • Two years of prior experience with trash and recycling equipment.
  • Basic computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft applications, email, and internet.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules in a 24/7 work environment, including holidays, nights, and weekends.
  • Must apply for, receive, and maintain a Gaming License from the Tribal Gaming Agency.
  • Native American hiring preference applies.
